Story Highlight: Epidemic Ales

What once began as a hobby, is now a thriving brewery in the heart of Concord, CA. Epidemic Ales was founded by 3 couples with a dream and a love of craft beer. The six founders kicked around a couple of ideas for names, eventually settling on Epidemic Ales. “We’re big horror movie fans, so it worked for us,” says Erin Schally. “And it’s definitely memorable.” Now running on their third year, they are growing, becoming more popular and a favorite local hang out!

Epidemic has grown from a one-barrel system and eight-draft taproom into a brewery pumping out beer through two 20-barrel fermenters and 24 taps. While the founders have since brought on a head and assistant brewer to refine the recipes—such as the Zombrew IPA and Nightshade Stout—the brewery still keeps its creativity alive by playing around with less common styles, ranging from a milkshake IPA made with lactose and real fruit to a maple pecan pie brown ale made with bourbon pecan pie from a local bakery.

Not only does Epidemic make great beer, but they are also involved in the community. They host a monthly paint night, have a local food truck regularly on the weekends and throw beer release parties to showcases the newest creations. The tap room has turned into a local hangout and is now open 7 days a week! You don’t have to visit the tap room to try their amazing brews, you can find them at local restaurants and tap rooms all over the Bay Area!
